Story

Born in Sea Cliff, New York

OCTOBER 12th, 1953

Captain Joseph Zigmund Gremelsbacker 68 years old of Dania Beach, Florida passed away from heart failure after a long battle with cancer on October 3rd, 2022. He was predeceased by beloved wife Rosemary, sisters Peggy and Ellen, and brothers Eugene, John, James, Michael, and Martin. His surviving family members include only child Morgan, sister Marie, nephews John Scott and George, and nieces Kerry, Ann Marie, Courtney, Laura, and Lyndsey.

Joe devoted 40 years of passionate service at AMO (American Maritime Officers) and worked his way up from 3rd mate all the way to Master Captain. He came ashore in 1992 to work for the union and was elected to his cherished position of Vice President Deep Sea in the coming years. Whether you knew him as a shipmate, friend, or family, Joe was always there to help and make us laugh on this journey of life. May we all find peace knowing he is no longer suffering and reunited with all his loved ones in the stars. Think of him when you feel the sun on a cold winters day, find a joke you can't wait to tell, or feel like MacGyver in a close call.

Our shared stories are how we will celebrate our devoted and loving friend, shipmate, and father. While we grieve, also celebrate that we got to know and love Joe in this life.

We will miss you forever.
